AI Skills
In terms of artificial intelligence, I am fearful of generated images and videos, specifically regarding the increasing difficulty when distinguishing what is real or fake. I am also concerned with the effect it is having on the environment, since it takes a lot of energy to produce computer generated responses. That said, I think AI is beneficial when used appropriately. Below are a few ways I have used AI to make my work more efficient.
Coding a website can be very specific and if you have an error in your code, it could break the entire site. A lot of coding software only tells you that you have an error, not where it is, so having the ability to cross reference my code with AI has been a useful tool. I don’t always have access to another person who could check over my code, especially if I am in a time crunch, so an AI chatbox comes in handy. Additionally, there are times when I can’t figure out how to code what I am envisioning, so I can ask AI to code the basic layout for me. For instance, on the home page of this site, I was having difficulties in keeping the text in front of the circles, and Chat GPT was able to help me resolve that issue.
AI has also created practice work to help me understand specific course material. This is especially useful during finals season when I need more practice on concepts I struggled with throughout the semester. Since most colleges have a language requirement, this comes in handy when you need to relearn content you may have forgotten in the previous level, as well. For example, I asked ChatGPT for tips and practice questions regarding which verbs use the auxillary "essere" vs. "avere" when I was learning past tense structures in Italian.
Lastly, AI helped me come up with the branding for this portfolio. While AI does not typically do well in conveying genuine creativity or humanistic qualities, it does do well in analyzing data. For this portfolio, I asked ChatGPT to tell me about myself based on the previous conversations I have had with the chatbot and it provided me with characteristics, as well as qualities it thinks I possess. I used a combination of qualities it gave me and turned it into the tag line you see on the home page.
